The Consumer Index uses data science to analyze online shopping data to derive insights that provide marketers a better understanding of today’s consumers to drive deeper and more relevant engagement. The Index uses anonymous data gleaned from the DataXu programmatic marketing platform, which touches every consumer in the US online population multiple times per month. Examining a number of consumer characteristics such as occupations, browsed content, and digital device usage, the report identified key findings — significant trends and purchasing patterns — and will measure how those change over time. Accompanying each finding is a “take-away” that suggests how marketers can cultivate the insights to increase ROI.

- Cross-shopping: Automotive consumers are more likely to shop for Media and Entertainment and Health products
- Device Usage: Smartphone users are more likely to shop for and purchase financial services than other industries
- Food Preferences: Online retail buyers are more likely to eat organic foods
